Offseason Acquisitions

Here are a few acqusitions that I'd like to see the Pens make over the offseason via trade or free agency. There aren't too many, this is just meant to spark some conversation.

Feel free to comment and suggest some of your own.

Ryan Jones - Edmonton - Right Wing

2011-2012 Stats:

79GP 17G 16A 33Pts -7 42PIM

Contract Status:

signed through next season in Edmonton at $1.5 Million

The most valuable asset that Jones brings to the table is his personality. He brings a great locker room presence and could be very valuable in that sense. His playing entails a hard-working, gritty, garbage-goal scoring style. There were rumors that Edmonton was looking to deal him at the deadline, so it may be pretty easy to acquire his rights.

Ray Whitney - Phoenix (UFA) - Left Wing

2011-2012 Stats:

82GP 24G 53A 77Pts +26

Contract Status:

Unrestricted Free Agent (coming off of a 2 year deal at $3 Million per in Phoenix)

Whitney is a player that the Penguins were rumored to be looking to aquire at the 2010 deadline. Age doesn't seem to be slowing him down yet since at 40 years old he scored his 1,000th career point among the 77 he racked up this season. His offensive production would obviously be a plus to acquire and he would also bring more of a veteran presence to the team. He is also a Stanley Cup Champion with the 2006 Hurricanes. It's anyones guess whether he's willing to sign somewhere other than Phoenix or retire this summer, although his season would suggest he's not ready to retire just yet.

Cal Clutterbuck - Minnesota - Right Wing

2011-2012 Stats:

74Gp 15G 12A 27Pts -4 103PIM

Contract Status:

signed through next season in Minnesota at $1.4 Million

Clutterbuck is another gritty player known for his hard hitting style. He is a fan favorite in Minnesota so it might be hard to acquire him in a trade.

Zach Parise

Just kidding. One can hope, right?

Francois Beauchemin - Anaheim

2011 2012 Stats:

82GP 8G 14A 22Pts -14 48PIM

Contract Status:

signed through 2014-2015 season at $3.5 Million per season

Beauchemin has a lethal slapshot that could thrive on the powerplay. He was a member of the 2007 Stanley Cup Champion Anaheim Ducks. After signing in Toronto, he was traded back to Anaheim where he was signed to a three year extention this January. The Ducks obviously plan on having him around, but deals can be made to acquire his rights. He could be a great guy to put next to fellow French-Canadian Kris Letang. Additionally, it would seem that he is friends with Marc-Andre Fleury considering he was at Fleurys Stanley Cup party in 2009.

Jason Garrison - Florida Panthers (RFA)

2011-2012 Stats:

77GP 16G 17A 33Pts +6 32PIM

Contract Status:

Restricted Free Agent ($675,000)

Garrison is an ideal signing after having a breakout year, and thus is due a pretty big pay-day. Florida will obviously want to keep him, but you never know what a player demands. Although it's an unlikely signing, it's worth it to make an attempt to acquire his rights prior to free agency.

Bryan Allen - Carolina Hurricanes (UFA)

2011-2012 Stats:

82GP 1G 13A 14Pts -1 76PIM

Allen is a defensive defenseman, and given how the defense played at the end of the year and into the playoffs, he could be an option via Free Agency.

The content expressed in fanposts does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the staff here at FanPosts are opinions expressed by fans of various teams throughout the league but may be more Pittsburgh-centric for obvious reasons.
