Day 1 mini-recap

Not much on the NHL front for the pens, but 3 good signings for the baby pens.

The Crosby contract is official, and according to Darren Dreger, it is front loaded. The first 3 years are at 12 mill. He will make close to 11 mill AAV the first 9 years of the 12 year deal (I have no idea what that means).

For the big team we lost Arron Asham to New York (boo) but signed Tanner Glass (yay). The glass contract is .1 million more than what Asham signed for to play for the blue shirts which seems like a really good deal to me. He's a physical fourth line grinder and a good PKer.

As far as Parise watch, both Yohe and Mollinari from the trib have stated that there is a growing current of confidence around the organization that we will sign Parise. Now, confidence currents are not the same as signed contracts, but when I heard that Shero was in Pittsburgh and not Toronto bearing his frankincense, gold, and myrrh, I figured that we were out of the running.

Another little tidbit that I picked up (on twitter, from actual reporters) was that Martin and Crosby were being used to sway Parise. Seems like Martin is going to be sticking around, otherwise, why use him to sell Parise on the benefits of playing for a team he won't be playing for? With him and his contact still in Pittsburgh, it looks like there will be no Suter. Of course, a lot could change, maybe the nugget posted to twitter is total bull-jive, who knows? Anyway, not really a groundbreaking day for us (aside from Crosby's contract being made official), but I'm the chess master is back at Castle Shero laughing maniacally
