Pens Points Wednesday: Geno Checks Off Oilers

Vincent Pugliese

Geno checks Oilers off his scoring list. Avs are 6-0. Another dirty hit, another player in the hospital. Just your typical night in the NHL.

The Pens dropped the Oilers last night in an entertaining, fast-paced game. The top line is churning out points left and right. I scored! No, I scored! It went in off my stick! They probably have more points than the Sabres. [PG]

Oh, and Geno has now scored against every team in the NHL. Edmonton was last on the list. []

Per everyone's expectations, Colorado Avalanche are 6-0. They defeated the Dallas Stars last night in a game that featured some incredible goaltending by Semyon Varlamov as well as some beautiful goals. Patrick Roy sets a new record for a coach to go undefeated at career start. []

The other two undefeated teams squared off as well last night, and the Sharks topped the Blues, 6-2. They paid a heavy price, though, as Maxim Lapierre laid an ugly check from behind on Dan Boyle, who was motionless on the ice for a bit, was stretchered off and spent the night in a St. Louis hospital. What followed was brawling, retaliation against Lapierre's linemate Brenden Morrow, and all that good stuff. [Kukla's Korner]

Sabres' Patrick Kaleta was suspended 10 games for a hit on Jack Johnson. Here's hoping Lapierre gets 20. [The Hockey News]

And finally, what is wrong with the New York Rangers? They sit at 1-4-0, have a -14 goal differential, and play the Capitals tonight. [Grantland]
