I didn't bother writing about it yesterday when I read it on twitter, because I figured somebody would mention it, but so far no, so here it goes.
Penguins prospect Clark Seymour of the OHL Peterborough Petes is heading to the WBS Penguins under an ATO now that his OHL season has come to an end.
Off to Wilkes Barre for an exciting experience. Can't thank PTBO teammates and fans enough for the story we wrote this season #MuchLove — Clark Seymour (@Seabiscuit4) March 20, 2013
Seymour is a 19 year old Defenseman, listed at 6'4" 202lbs picked up in the 5th round of the 2012 NHL Draft. He is currently unsigned by the Pens, so this stint in WBS will help them determine whether or not he looks to have a future in the organization. He will be turning 20 in a couple months, so his junior career is over and he should be turning pro next year (in either the AHL or ECHL). Whether or not this is with the Pens remains to be seen, but they still hold his contracting rights until after next season.
His 4th season in the OHL, he set a career high in games played (62), goals (3), assists (10), and points (13). He is a stay at home D, big and physical. He fights in the corners, is aggressive and knows how to throw his weight around to make big checks. He's also been known to drop the gloves and stick up for his teammates. So basically he is the new Deryk Engelland, just ever so slightly larger. So if the Pens do opt to sign him, expect him to spend some time in the AHL, and at best will be a 6th/7th D in the NHL taking over for Engelland when he is gone.
