Wow. Number 1, I can't believe I'm the first to break this story. I guess everyone else isn't an insomniac like me. Number 2, Wow, just wow
Here is the article from ESPN
I, just as everyone else, thought Iginla was headed to the B's. I was shocked when I saw he was instead headed to the Pens. The price, however, for the Flames captain was not cheap. Kenneth Agostino, a standout winger from Yale who was our 5th round pick in 2010 who I think has top-6 upside, Ben Hanowski, a skilled winger from St.Cloud U who is kind of a boom or bust type, and a 1st-rounder. I think giving up the 1st rounder stings the most. This draft is incredibly deep, and there would have been good value even where we were picking. Now we have no picks in the first two rounds. I'm also kind of surprised Shero drew from our forward prospects to trade. Our forward cupboard is relatively bare compared to our D-pool.
Honestly, I would have been happy with Morrow and Murray, but Iginla almost seems like overkill at this point. Sure, he will look good playing with one of our top centers, but do we really want to break up the chemistry of our top line? If we put him on the second line, where does that leave Neal or our new acquisition Morrow? I don't think we paid that much to put either of them on the 3rd line. I like Iggy, but I'm not entirely sure how he fits into the equation yet. If I had to guess, I would say he replaces Duper on the 1st line. Although they have great chemistry now, I think they hope they can recreate the chemistry Sid and Iggy had in Vancouver. Its hard to knock Duper off the first line, considering his play this year, but I just don't see where else he can slot. Maybe this is a signal Duper is on his way out too? Hard to say yet.
However, if we weren't all in on Morrow and Murray, we sure are now. I still don't think Shero is done though. I'm pretty sure Tyler Kennedy won't be wearing a Pens uni soon, and I think we can use him to get some draft picks from someone like Phoenix. That's my take. Let's Go Pens!!!
