Game Preview: Pens vs. Jets

Charles Leclaire-US PRESSWIRE

We check in with questions and answers about Eric Tangradi and what Winnipeg might do at the trade deadline.

We talked with our buddy TJ at Arctic Ice Hockey about the state of the Jets. They have a great blog over there, so definitely check them out for their perspective and coverage of tonight's game.

The Jets are currently leading the Southeast, but their playoff chances are far from secure, what's the mood among the team and fans like at this point as far as postseason hopes go?

Right now the mood in Winnipeg is sky high. If the Jets happen to beat the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday (overlooking the beating they'll likely take tonight), the roof of the MTS Centre might just explode. Winnipeg currently has a 77% chance of making the playoffs so it's fair to say that we're a confident bunch right now.

2- So, the Penguins have this thing about acquiring team captains these days, is Andrew Ladd safe? No, but seriously do you think Winnipeg will look to add anything at the trade deadline? And if they could would it be a forward or defenseman?

This is a great question because there truly is no telling what the Jets will do come the trade deadline. With expiring contracts in Ron Hainsey and Nik Antropov, those might be two players on their way out of town. However, I have it on good authority that TNSE hopes to re-sign Hainsey and with the team currently in a playoff hunt, Kevin Cheveldayoff might look to stand pat and take their chances in the 2013 playoffs.

If they were to make a trade, Winnipeg would probably look to add draft picks or a forward as their current glut of defensemen is pretty much set.

3- I see Eric Tangradi has a goal and an assist with Winnipeg, what's his role been and how has he done? What line is he currently on? Do you seea future for him next season on the Jets?

Tangradi has accepted his role as a checking line winger who is being asked to play a full 200-foot game. He is currently on the third line (much to my chagrin) alongside Nik Antropov and Kyle Wellwood, which has seen limited success offensively but has done the job in their own zone.

I don't Tangradi being in town next year solely on the fact that there are probably better options on the market. But if he were to accept a two-way contract, that would be alright by me.
