I noticed that Hockey Prospectus has some very interesting additions to its statistics, in particular a new section on data visualization.
After playing around a bit, I found the draft section where picks are evaluated by their proprietary player metric, GVT. I had a look at Shero's draft record. Here are the charts.
To provide a comparison, here are Boston and Chicago.
I'm not going to reiterate points that have been made ad naseaum before. Usual caveats apply regarding using a counting stat like GVT for players who may either just be starting a career or haven't had a chance to get to the NHL yet.
And, because it's a really cool tool, here's the Pens' all-time draft.
Apologies for not including the charts, but I couldn't get them to display everything well.
