Pensburgh NHL Awards: Hart/Lindsay

With the most valuable (Hart) and most outstanding (Lindsay) player awards having the same 3 finalists, I will be combining the 2 in the 1st edition of this series. The candidates:

Sidney Crosby:

From a statistical standpoint, Crosby should run away with both awards. Although an argument could be made that the Flyers may be worse off without Giroux than we'd be without Sid, the fact that we ran away with the division despite leading the league in man games lost should nullify that claim.

Ryan Getzlaf:

Centering a line with Corey Perry, Getzlaf racked up 31 goals and 56 assists, giving him sole possession of the #2 spot in total scoring. With his power forward build, Getzlaf played a great 2-way game, as evidenced by his +28.

Claude Giroux:

After trailing Craig Adams in scoring early on, Giroux found his form and helped turn around Philly's season after Peter Laviolette got the boot. Giroux's strong play helped spur impressive seasons from Jakub Voracek and Wayne Simmonds.

My Pick: Sidney Crosby

Bonus Award of the Day: Quote of the Year

Feel free to put you favorite quote(s) in the comment section below. My nomination is one that was shockingly dirty given the fact that hockey players are known for boring, cliche answers. When Patrick Marleau was being asked if he thought Tomas Hertl was showboating, Joe Thornton stepped in to defend his young teammate:

Hearing a question to Marleau about Hertl and whether he was showboating, Thornton said: "Shut up, have you ever played the game?"

When the press turned his way, he then added:

"I’d have my cock out if I scored four goals. I’d have my cock out, stroking it."

The content expressed in fanposts does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the staff here at FanPosts are opinions expressed by fans of various teams throughout the league but may be more Pittsburgh-centric for obvious reasons.
