Off-season adventures: Evgeni Malkin meets Magic Johnson

Nice to meet you @magicjohnson )))

We already had the Pittsburgh-connection when Sidney Crosby ended up working out with Antonio Brown. Now, it's time for a whole new level of famous professional athlete, as Geno seems to have run into Magic.

As brought up in the comments, here's something to note: Johnson is listed as 6'9. Malkin, 6'3. That... does not look like a six inch difference. Huh.

Well, at least Geno certainly isn't short.

Alexander is the best. The Letangs are the best.

Watch Sergei Plotnikov score off Seth Jones' stick

1

Plotnikov wasn't a Penguin back during the 2015 IIHF World Championships, but now, we can have a new appreciation for this goal, even if it was at America's expense.

He goes in, picks up his own heavy rebound, and goes for the smooth cross-crease pass to set up his teammate for an easy tap-in... only for Jones to redirect it in instead.

It was going to be a hell of a pass, but the goal is even better. Welcome, Sergei!

Off-season adventures: Evgeni Malkin riding a horse

You can't say that he's NOT riding a horse.

It's just... not a living horse.

The important thing is, he's having a good time! And he's not likely to get injured on that guy. Have fun, Geno.

Kessel Highlights

Some Phil Kessel highlights (I did not create this video, I found it on Youtube). It was published in 2013, so it is missing his 2013-14 and 2014-15 season highlights.

The Burgatory has a special welcome for Phil Kessel

+

Phil Kessel, as an elite scoring winger, will be a very welcome addition to the Pittsburgh Penguins. And with the expectation of many, many goals soon on the horizon, the welcomes are rolling in locally.

Like this one, from the Burgatory. Not that Kessel needs any help buying his own food, but hey, that's a pretty friggin' great welcome present.

SMH, high taxes on the eastern side of the commonwealth. NHL players have less wealth if they sign with Philadelphia vs. Pittsburgh on the same salary. Interesting look here

Paul Martin's emotional goodbye to Pittsburgh

+

"There are many more people I’d like to thank, but most importantly, I’d like to thank the fans. You were all so supportive and passionate. When I arrived here, I was a defensive specialist — definitely not a household name. I used to have a joke when I was driving around town with friends and spotted someone in a Penguins jersey. "Hey, there’s a no. 7!" You see so many 7s in Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, most have an 8 before or a 1 after. Sid and Geno run the town. Whenever I would see an actual Paul Martin jersey, I’d usually pop my head out the window and say hello."

From Paul Martin in The Players' Tribune. He has a lot of people to thank for his five years in Pittsburgh, and some funny stories to tell, too - check it out.

Sidney Crosby is excited to have Phil Kessel on his team

+

That's the most boring statement of excitement I've ever read - not that you'd expect anything less of Crosby!

In reality, though, Kessel on Crosby's wing is going to be wild. Get ready for all the goals.
