Tales of the Tape: Goalie fight!

Ty Conklin is a pretty popular guy around Pittsburgh right now.  Curious, I went through the massive archive of hockeyfights.com and I found a doozy.

Star-divide

Conklin has had one fight in the NHL on February 11, 2004 when he was playing for the Edmonton Oilers.  One of seven fights that game (one featuring past and present teammate Georges Laraque), Conklin came together with Thrashers goalie Pasi Nurminen and the two got to business.  A goalie fight is one of the bigger spectacles of hockey fights, and this was a good one.  Conklin took the victory on this one with some solid uppercuts and the classic jersey-over-the-head pull.

Conklin's fight starts at about the 1:20 mark in the video.

Neither Sabourin or Fleury have fought (to my knowledge) - nor has former backup Jocelyn Thibault.  If you see a goalie fight during a game, remember that you are seeing something special.  And if you're really lucky, you might just see the ridiculous grin that last appeared during the entirety of Ottawa goalie Ray Emery's fight(s) last year.

The content expressed in fanposts does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the staff here at Pensburgh.com. FanPosts are opinions expressed by fans of various teams throughout the league but may be more Pittsburgh-centric for obvious reasons.

I remember

That Biron/Emery fight.  Too bad Emery can't stop a shot for his life now.  But would you really want to drop mitts with a guy who has Muhammed Ali on his helmet and takes boxing lessons in the off-season?

Conklin did the textbook Mighty Ducks fight approach of drop, grab jersey, pull over head, punch.  Nice work.  Coach Bombay would be proud.
