With the revelations that have leaked out this morning regarding the 2013 NHL CBA negotiations and the potential for two amnesty buyouts (which have not been detailed to clarify the rules of such buyouts), here's the current status of the Lightning against the NHL salary cap for this season.

He might be turning 43 in a matter of days, but Dwayne Roloson still wants to play in the NHL.But the Toronto Maple Leafs wanted him to try his hand at coaching. A role that Roloson turned down. Roloson became an unrestricted free agent on July 1st. He's just as locked-out as any other NHL player, though.

From ESPN: Panthers president and chief operating officer Michael Yormark released a statement announcing what he called "staff adjustments" on Tuesday, the lockout's third full day. Yormark did not say how many jobs were involved. He cited the league's "work stoppage," avoiding the word "lockout".

In light of the looming NHL lockout, the Flames assigned 18 players to the Abbotsford Heat yesterday including T.J. Brodie, Sven Baertschi, Max Reinhart, Lance Bouma, Roman Horak, Greg Nemisz, and others. Today, Akim Aliu, Paul Byron, Joe Piskula, Krys Kolanos, and Ben Walter joined them.

This quote from this Montreal Gazette article says it well: "At issue, according to the NHLPA, is that the players’ union is not a group certified by the Quebec Labour Board. The NHLPA adds that, under Quebec law, an employer – the Canadiens, in this case – cannot lock out employees – Habs players, in this case – unless they are represented by a union certified by the QLB." The Ontario government has paved the way in favour of the owners already, so Toronto and Ottawa won't be so lucky. It is also said that the Alberta board has received filings from the NHLPA already. Talks are in progress with BC and Manitoba.
