Edit: Reports say two years, $2 million

If anything this might help Max Talbot's foot feel a little better.  The Penguins' GM Ray Shero announced today that the team has extended it's contract with third/fourth line forward Max Talbot through the 2010-11 season.  No word yet on how much the Penguins extended his contract by, but I can't imagine it's in the earth-shattering realm of numbers.

I think it's a solid extension.  Keeping a guy like Talbot around is great on so many levels.  For starters, Michel Therrien has only just started experiementing Max on Sid's line, and I'm sure once he's back to 100% with whatever foot problem/lower body injury is ailing him then MT will test it out even further.

Max is a fast skater with a great PK presence. Guys like him don't rack up a ton of points but you really know how critical they are to a team when they are out with an injury.  Some may argue any team can craft a Max Talblot from the universal third-liner mold, but you'd be hard pressed to find a guy with the same locker room presence as Max.

Oh yeah, and these little contributions don't hurt either:

All in all I have to say I'm a fan of the signing.  If Shero considered locker room presence for years to come, than nice move.  If not, and he based this extension solely on Max's on-ice performance, then all the better.

Whatcha think?
