RED WINGS BLOGS: WINGING IT IN MOTOWN

NOTES

As typical for an early afternoon game, this is your combo preview/open thread.

Games like this always seems like they need their separate soundtrack.  I'd like to think anything from the movie Gladiator would do, but I'd also willingly accept the Terminator 2 song.  That would just be all too fitting.

Here's to hoping the Red Wings used up all of their energy in last night's 8-3 win over the Oilers.  Ty Conklin was in net so I wonder if we'll see him again in the back-to-back series.  I'll try and get a definitive answer as we edge close to game time.

Last time these two teams played Jordan Staal picked up a third period hat trick and the Pens pulled off a phenomenal 7-6 come-from-behind win in overtime.  For some reason I don't think we'll see such a high-scoring affair today (much to NBC's chagrin) but I do feel it'll be a close one nonetheless.

Just a few days ago Sean Leahy from PuckDaddy asked for a few Pens and Wings bloggers to toss around their thoughts on this rematch.  Give it a read.

The one thing to take from that Yahoo post is this: the Penguins are unpredictable, Marian Hossa is on fire, Chris Osgood is in a spirl and the Pens just don't score.  Needless to say, this will be an interesting one.
