Two hottest teams in the East met, Carolina beats Pittsburgh 3-2 in OT

Finally going back on the road the Penguins ran into the somehow equally as hot Carolina Hurricanes and came out losers 3-2 in OT.

  • Both goalies came to play and were not about to let their team's out of it; Cam Ward made 33 saves on 35 shots and Marc-Andre Fleury got in front of 27 of 30 saves.  Both goalies were big when it counted and they were in charge.
  • Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin combined for 10 shots on goal, but both were a -2 and registered 0 points.  Not good chances of victory, if you only knew that.
  • Tyler Kennedy manned up for a goal and assist and as usual hustled his way around the ice.  The Pens wouldn't have gotten a point in the standings if it wasn't for TK.
  • For a guy who was hurt last game, Ruslan Fedotenko got 2 assists and played well.
  • The Penguins only won 40% of their faceoff and no one won more than 50% of the draws.  Rod "The Bod" Brind'Amour won 12 out of his 16.

So just like that the Pens get slowed down by a hot team.  The dreaded Florida trip is now looming.
