Thoughts and Notes Leading Up to the Sabres

  • Sidney Crosby's point streak is still alive, as he's now registered 20 points (9 goals, 11 assists) in nine games.
  • Buffalo's last outing was a 2-1 loss to the Lightning on Saturday.  The Sabres are currently ranked tied for 11th in the East with 19 points.
  • The Sabres like to shoot the puck, as they currently rank fifth in the shots-per-game department, averaging nearly 33 shots per.  The Penguins on the other hand are second in overall in least shots allowed, roughly 27 per game.  Will they cancel each other out?
  • The AP story out of Buffalo is saying we will not see Tim Connolly or Ryan Miller for the Sabres tonight, as they are both dealing with groin injuries.  The injury bug has also claimed Rob Niedermayer with a knee injury.  The Sabres are adjusting with some line changes.
  • We all know how much Patrick Lalime loves to play against the Penguins, so keep an eye on that for tonight.  He was 1-1-1 against the Pens last season, but the game that sticks out the most to me is the one on December 29th when he replaced Miller with the Sabres down 3-0.  Buffalo rallied to win 4-3 in a shootout.
