Sid Makes it Rain: Pens Win 3-2

Thrashers Blog: Birdwatchers Anonymous

Hey Pens front-office people who may or may not be reading this: discount your hats for the holiday season.  Sid's costing fans a fortune.

Is there any player in the league playing better than Sidney Crosby right now?  Be honest you lurking fans from the lesser 29 teams: there's no denying he is officially in his prime.

Just two games removed from his hat trick against the Calgary Flames, Sid notched another tonight, scoring all three goals in the Penguins' 3-2 win over the Thrashers.  The 'W' gives the Pens eight straight wins and gives them sole possession of first place in the Atlantic.

29 points in 15 games for Sid gives him a four-point lead over Tampa's Steve Stamkos for the most points in the league.  Thursday's trick gave Sid the seventh of his career and, oddly enough, the first natural hat trick of the lot.

And yet when you talk about Sid's overall offensive performance, you're forced to also look on the other side of the puck, specifically between the pipes where Marc-Andre Fleury.  MAF improved his record to 10-6-1 and is 9-0-1in his last 10 starts.

Props to guys like Deryk Engelland, Arron Asham and Brooks Orpik, all of whom registered an assist on the night.  Asham also mixed it up two minutes into the game with Atlanta's Chris Thorburn

Also have to love a guy like Max Talbot, who didn't register a single point on the game but blocked a huge shot, led the team with seven hits and had two takeaways.
