Men's hockey: US and Canada vying for gold medal rematch

If you've been waiting to see if the US and Canada will meet up again in the gold medal game, well you're in luck.  By midnight tonight we should know exactly how the next round is going to go down

Keeping up with the routine of matinee games, the US and Finland meet up today at 3:00 EST. The Finland women's team took home the bronze yesterday at the conclusion of the women's olympic run.  Last time around during the 2006 games in Turin, Italy, the men's team claimed the silver medal after falling to Sweden by the score of 3-2 in the gold medal game.  Finland is 2-1 so far in olympic play, while Team USA sits atop the Group A standings at 3-0.

The winner goes on to play either Canada or Slovakia, depending on the outcome of that 9:30 EST start.  Canada may have played an extra game over the US, but it's safe to say Germany hardly posed as a challenge.  Nor did Russia for that matter.  Tonight they will have to beat Slovakia and the likes of Marian Gaborik, Marian Hossa and former Penguins Ziggy Palffy and Miro Satan.  Keep in mind this is a Slovakian team that beat Sweden Wednesday night.  In other words, they mean business.

So sit back and watch a few games today to see how Sunday's gold medal game pans out.  SBNation.com will have an open thread for both games up and running throughout the day, so feel free to stop in and chat it up (or if you're stuck at work, to check for updates).
