It's been rumored for a while now but officially announced today: the 2012 NHL Draft will be held in Pittsburgh at Consol Energy Center June 22-23.Penguins CEO/president David Morehouse, general manager Ray Shero and Mayor Luke Ravenstahl were joined by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman to make the official announcement today.
This is obviously just another big NHL-centric event to take place in the city over the past few years. There was the Cup celebration in 2009, the announcement of the outdoor game in 2010, the actual game in 2011 and now the Draft in 2012.
According to an article in the Trib-Review, a few guys in the Pens' front office were joking that it's now Bettman's turn to announce the All-Star Game is coming to Pittsburgh. At this rate, you'd have to imagine it'll come sooner rather than later.
Preferably with another Stanley Cup celebration through the streets of Pittsburgh thrown in between.
