Huge trade, the Penguins have traded center Jordan Staal to the Carolina Hurricanes for the 8th overall pick in the 2012 draft, center Brandon Sutter and prospect Brian Dumolin (a former second round pick in 2009).

All of this comes one day after Staal turned down a ten year, $60 million dollar contract from the Penguins. At one year away from unrestricted free agency, the Penguins couldn't afford to take the risk of watching him walk next year for nothing.

Huge trade that will rock the foundation of the Pens for years to come. On one hand, they have to deal one of their best players. But, on the other hand, they couldn't play with Staal going to unrestricted free agency.

Stay tuned for more fallout through the 2012 NHL draft.
