Minor Distractions - AHL 1st Quarter Results

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins played their 19th game in the 76-game AHL schedule last night and are now officially 1/4th through the 2013-14 AHL season.

The Pittsburgh Penguins AHL affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins finished up their first quarter of the 2013-14 AHL season last night with a loss to the Adirondack Phantoms. Through the 1st 19 games of the 76-game AHL schedule the Baby Pens have gone 12-5-0-2 and currently sit at #2 in the East Division, #4 in the Eastern Conference, and #6 in the AHL.

They have gone 18 for 114 on the Power Play, which at 15.8% puts them at #20 in the AHL, and they have given up 3 Shorthanded Goals which is tied for #19. They allowed 16 Goals on 97 attempts shorthanded, which at 83.5% is #12 in the AHL, and are tied for #2 in the league with 5 Shorthanded Goals. They are #5 in the AHL with 67 Goals For and #9 with 50 Goals Against, giving them a #3 Goal Differential of +17.

Goaltenders

Jeff Deslauriers - 10-4-0-2 with a 2.38 GAA and .899 Sv%

He currently lead the AHL in Wins, is #14 in GAA, and #38 in Save %.

Peter Mannino - 1-1-0-0 with a 3.40 GAA and .877 Sv%

He was assigned to the Wheeling Nailers and has been suspended from the team for failing to report.

Eric Hartzell - 1-0-0-0 with a 2.00 GAA and .935 Sv%

He began the season injured and spent 3 weeks playing 5 games for the Wheeling Nailers before returning to WBS.

Defensemen

Philip Samuelsson - 3 Assists and a +7 in 19 games

Recently promoted 4th Alternate Captain, spent the entire season on the top D pair playing a shutdown role.

Scott Harrington - 2 Goals, 6 Assists, and a +6 in 19 games, 2G and 3A scored on the PP

Rookie who spent the entire season on the 2nd D pair and also sees time on the Top PP unit.

Brian Dumoulin - 1 Goal, 5 Assists, and a +0 in 18 games, 1G and 1A scored on the PP

Started injured and returned on the 3rd D pair, worked his way up and is now back to the top pair and 2nd PP unit.

Brendan Mikkelson - 2 Goals, 12 Assists, and a +8 in 18 games, 1G and 9A scored on the PP and 1A on the PK

Alternate Captain, spent most of the season on the 2nd D pair and quarterbacks the top PP unit.

Simon Despres - 3 Goals, 8 Assists, and a +13 in 17 games, 1A scored on the PP

Spent the season on the top D pair and saw some time on the 2nd PP unit, recently promoted to the NHL.

Nick D`Agostino - 2 Assists and a -2 in 12 games

Rookie who plays on the 3rd D pair but is occasionally swapped out so others may play.

Reid McNeill - No Points and a +2 in 8 games

Played on the 3rd D pair when he did make it into the lineup, but is currently injured.

Dustin Stevenson - No Points and a -1 in 3 games

Started injured and then spent 3 weeks playing 9 games for the Wheeling Nailers, returned when McNeill injured.

Peter Merth - No games played

Began the season injured and just recently returned to practice but has yet to dress for a game.

Harrison Ruopp - No games played

Began the season injured and then after returning was assigned to the Wheeling Nailers.

Forwards

Dominik Uher - 3 Goals, 6 Assists, and a +2 in 19 games, 1G and 2A scored on the PP

The only forward to dress for every game, mostly played on the 3rd line and some time on the PP.

Tom Kuhnhackl - 5 Goals and a -1 in 18 games, 2G scored on the PP

Rookie* who started the year on the top line but has dropped down the lineup, also sees time on the PP.

Andrew Ebbett - 6 Goals, 9 Assists, and a +4 in 18 games, 1G and 4A scored on the PP and 1G and 1A on the PK

3rd Alternate Captain, centered the 2nd line, the top PP, and some PK time, recently called up to the NHL.

Adam Payerl - 2 Goals, 3 Assists, and a +2 in 17 games

After being the talk of the town in the summer he had a rough camp, but has been climbing the depth chart again.

Tom Kostopoulos - 8 Goals, 9 Assists, and a +5 in 16 games, 5G and 5A were scored on the PP

Captain that spent most of the season on the 2nd line and the top PP unit.

Harry Zolnierczyk - 8 Goals, 3 Assists, and a +5 in 16 games, 1A was scored on the PP

Spent most of the season in the Top 6 and some PP time, plus a short 3-game stay in the NHL.

Brian Gibbons - 7 Goals, 16 Assists, and a +12 in in 16 games, 2G and 3A were scored on the PP and 2G and 1A on the PK

Spent most of the season centering the top line and the top PK unit with some PP time, spent 5 games in the NHL.

Chris Conner - 6 Goals, 5 Assists, and a +3 in 15 games, 2G and 1A were scored on the PP

Spent most of the season on the top scoring lines and time on the PP, recently returned to the NHL.

Zach Sill - 2 Goals, 3 Assists, and a +4 in 14 games

Alternate Captain, spent most of the season centering the 4th line and playing on the PK, called up to the NHL.

Bobby Farnham - 1 Goal, 1 Assist, and a +1 in 13 games

Injured early in the season and upon returning spent most of the season as a 4th line pest.

Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond - 1 Assist and a -1 in 13 games

Recently returned from injury, usually plays the 4th line heavyweight enforcer role.

Nick Drazenovic - 2 Goals, 8 Assists, and a +2 in 12 games, 1G and 4A scored on the PP

Recently injured, spent most of the season centering the 3rd line and playing on the PP.

Paul Thompson - 1 Assist and a -6 in 12 games, 1A scored on the PP

A really rough start for the former Top 6 20-goal scorer, struggles just to find a spot in the lineup.

Jayson Megna - 7 Goals, 3 Assists, and a +12 in 11 games, 2G and 1A scored shorthanded

Spent most of the season on the top line and the top PK unit, recently called back up to the NHL.

Mike Carman - 1 Goal, 3 Assists, and a -1 in 11 games

Began the season struggling to find a place in the lineup, but injuries have bumped him up to a middle 6 center.

Denver Manderson - 1 Assist and a +1 in 3 games

Rookie that began the season with the Wheeling Nailers and was recently called up due to injuries, 4th liner.

Cody Sylvester - 1 Goal and a +1 in 3 games

Rookie that began the season with the Wheeling Nailers and was recently called up due to injuries, 4th liner.

Anton Zlobin - No points in 1 game

Rookie, missed the off-season and first month of the regular season, played 1 game and then sent to Wheeling.
