Penguins Memorable Moments: Meltdown at MSG

The Pittsburgh Penguins carried a 4-game win streak into Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night. The streak would not continue to 5, with the New York Rangers beating the Penguins by a score of 5-1.

Tonight at Madison Square Garden, the Rangers won their 4th game out of their last 5. It wasn't close. A few memorable moments below: (The defensive effort in general is a moment I prefer not to remember).

Moment #1 - Sidney Crosby came out of the blocks ready to play tonight.

In the first minute of the game, he started in his own defensive zone. Before you knew it, he was flying through the neutral zone. Ryan McDonagh, who arguably is a top defenseman in the league, was blown away by Crosby. Lundqvist stood tall on the save, but it was a "wow, Crosby looks ready to go tonight" moment that just catches your eye and gives you the vibe that he won't need even a minute to warm up.

Moment #2 - Late in the first period, the Rangers scored two goals in just over a minute, the first by Ryan McDonagh, and the second by Derek Stepan. Mats Zuccarello made a great area pass (and perhaps a little luck with the puck falling flat) to spring Stepan, who caught Marc-Andre Fleury off his angle and scored to end the second period with a 2-0 lead for the Rangers.

Moment #3 - An egregious turnover by Dustin Jeffrey led to a rush for the Rangers headed the other way and Brian Boyle beat Fleury short-side to give the Rangers a 3-0 lead midway into the 2nd period.

These type of turnovers (the second bad one for Jeffrey tonight) will have a player finding himself stapled to the bench, you would imagine.

Unrelated Moment: This may be what started to set Crosby off tonight. Carl Hagelin taking out his skate from behind. Cheap? Dangerous? I say yes to both.

Unseen Moment - No specific moments to GIF or point out, but Henrik Lundqvist was dominant tonight. He easily could have had a shutout, with the only Pens goal coming in the crease when the puck got loose and Kris Letang knocked it in.

Unmentioned Moments - Goals by Ryan Callahan and Derick Brassard. Pascal Dupuis didn't play at all in the 3rd period. No clue what happened to him. Tanner Glass and Derek Dorsett fought in the waning minutes of the game.
