Pens Points Saturday: Can Geno Kick His Scoring Blues?

Backes will be trying to shut down Sid. Can Geno capitalize on that, with a real line for once? Oilers get Ilya Bryzgalov.

Mike Stobe

The Pens practiced yesterday and were off to St. Louis. Last night Joe Vitale invited the entire team to his parents' place for dinner. This is only his second time playing in hometown Scottrade Center as a pro. Also, this is a comeback of sorts for Matt D'Agostini, who might be slotted to the third line. [PPG]

Tonight's game in St. Louis will be a tough and physical affair. Here's your game preview from Dave Molinari. [PPG]

It will also be an Olympic preview of sorts, because expect David Backes to be on the ice against Crosby a lot, just like he will be in Sochi. [Josh Yohe-Trib]

The Edmonton Oilers did a few things yesterday. They freed up some cap space by trading Ladislav Smid and goalie Oliver Roy to Calgary for two prospects, former Oil Kings netminder Laurent Brossoit and Roman Horak. [TSN]

Next, they addressed the disaster in goal (Dubnyk's 3.80 GAA and .878 SV%) by agreeing to a 1-year $1.75M deal with Ilya Bryzgalov. [Sportsnet.ca]

That news set Twitter ablaze, because the Oilers are in Philadelphia right at this very moment, getting ready for today's game against the Flyers. Before you start setting your DVRs, Bryzgalov can't officially sign before Smid passes the physical with Calgary and the cap space is formally cleared. Dang. [theScore]

Ryan Getzlaf had himself a four-point night, including a hat-trick against the Sabres. These guys do need officiating help, because they are on track to win 9 games all season. Watch the Getz. [NHL]

A month into the season, let's do a playoff forecast. To the surprise of exactly no one, and based on the new playoff format, pretty much everyone from the Atlantic (well, aside from Buffalo, Florida and one other team) will make the playoffs. [Puck Prediction]

On the eve of the Olympics in Sochi, team Russia releases this music video in which Russian hockey anthem "Shaibu Shaibu" (meaning "get the puck") is sung by many of their hockey greats, including Geno. [THN]

I actually want Geno to be the guy tonight. I want to see that leg kick again. Also, after the 5-goal shellacking against the Rangers, Marc-Andre Fleury could use some help. Let's play a good game in front of him, guys. Let's go Pens.
