The Maple Leafs came to town to take on the Penguins and it was a highly entertaining contest. The game was tied 1-1 most of the way until Sidney Crosby broke the tie.
Early Moment: Less than 1 minute into the game, the Penguins were on the board.
Brian Dumoulin scored his first NHL point on the assist to Chris Conner.
Head Save Moment: Marc-Andre Fleury uses his head when necessary.
Maatta Moment: The Penguins defense was very good about controlling gap play with Toronto players entering the zone.
Here, Olli Maatta played Joffrey Lupul perfectly.
Zolnierczyk Moment: I am not a fan of Harry Zolnierczyk.
But if he can make plays like this and get himself in position, I can live with it.
First NHL Goal Moment: Morgan Rielly scored his first NHL goal.
It was re-directed a little bit by Simon Despres, possibly explaining why Marc-Andre Fleury seemed so easily beaten.
Crosby Moment: Leaving Sidney Crosby open in the slot is not a good idea.
There probably aren't very many chances he misses many goals from this spot.
Other:
Olli Maatta. 24:17 of ice time, including 6:12 shorthanded. He and Matt Niskanen essentially shut down the line of James van Riemsdyk, Nazem Kadri, and Phil Kessel.
Robert Bortuzzo had a big hit on Jerry D'Amigo that was questionable, as far as whether it was a head shot or not. He escaped any supplemental discipline from the Department of Player Safety, but played a strong, physical game. He did have a dumb moment where he fought Troy Bodie. With the depleted roster, leaving your team with 5 defenseman for a while isn't ideal. Bodie also fought Sill later on.
It's really entertaining to see the young life injected into the lineup. Tremendous play from Dumoulin, Phillip Samuelsson, considering how early they are into their careers.
Fleury was tremendous when he needed to be.
Brandon Sutter scored an empty net goal late.
The Penguins will travel to New York to take on the Rangers on Wednesday night as part of NBC Sports Network's Rivalry Night.
