Paul Martin injured

Daily update about the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Justin K. Aller

Last year, possibly welcome news given how poorly Paul Martin was playing. But right now, with Kris Letang out as well, the Penguins are going to suffer if Martin can't go tomorrow against the New York Islanders. Their defense might look like this:

Brooks Orpik - Matt Niskanen
Douglas Murray - Simon Despres
Mark Eaton - Deryk Engelland

Not exactly a murderer's row, there, but that (or something like it) might have to work. Luckily, after tomorrow the Penguins don't play until Tuesday, giving Martin and Letang a little more time to heal up.

Staying on the Potash train for news today:

Marc-Andre Fleury practiced yesterday and practiced again today. Minor league goalie Jeff Zatkoff is up with Pittsburgh still on a special 48 hour emergency rule for goalies and isn't currently counting against the NHL 23 man roster, but obviously the clock is ticking on that.

Sounds like the Pens dodged a bullet on Fleury, who's said to have a sore neck, but if he's out there as normal for practices, you have to assume he isn't that bothered and should be ready for a game by next Tuesday/Wednesday when the Pens play on back-to-back days.

Kinda sounds like Jarome Iginla isn't expected to play tomorrow, but I guess these things can change quickly. Still, to what I've heard, I don't even think he's in town yet. Sounds like most assume Iginla will make his Penguin debut on Tuesday against the Buffalo Sabres.
