Pre-Season Game 2: Pittsburgh Penguins vs Detroit Red Wings

The Pre-Season continues Monday September 16th at 7pm home against the Detroit Red Wings.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Penguins Pre-Season continues with their home opener vs the Detroit Red Wings on Monday September 16th at 7pm. It will be broadcast locally on WPCW or you can listen live via Pens Radio.

Unlike the previous game we were only given a list of 20 players, although there are 22 players that did not play or practice on Sunday, so likely the 2 not listed will be counted as healthy scratches. There has already been a change from the official lineup announcement to the line combos used in the morning skate.

Goaltenders

Starter - Tomas Vokoun

Backup - Eric Hartzell

Defensemen

Brooks Orpik and Paul Martin

Olli Maatta and Kris Letang

Simon Despres and Deryk Engelland

Presumably Harrison Ruopp as a healthy scratch

Forwards

Chris Kunitz, Sidney Crosby, and Pascal Dupuis

Jussi Jokinen, Brandon Sutter, and Chris Conner

Brian Gibbons, Nick Drazenovic, and Craig Adams

Harry Zolnierczyk, Jayson Megna, and Dominik Uher

Matt D`Agostini as a healthy scratch so that he can be with his wife who is in labour.

Special Teams

The top PP unit used this morning featured Martin and Letang on point with Crosby, Kunitz, and Jokinen up front. The 2nd PP unit featured Maatta and Despres on point, with Sutter, Dupuis, and Gibbons up front.

The top PK unit featured Adams and Zolnierczyk up front with Orpik and Engelland on D. The 3-on-5 PK featured Adams with Orpik and Engelland. Although considering the usual PK staples of Dupuis and Martin were busy working on the PP, we can assume they will return to their normal position to have our usual Dupuis-Adams-Orpik-Martin PK unit. The 2nd PK unit was not featured, although it stands to reason that Zolnierczyk and Engelland would be part of it, and likely 2 of the other players that were busy running on the PP side of the drills, Sutter being the obvious choice based on his use last season.
