The Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned an additional 8 players to the AHL following the latest series of roster cuts, trimming the Training Camp Roster to 35.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced 8 additional players cut from the Training Camp Roster and assigned to the WBS Penguins in the AHL.

The players cut from Camp include Defensemen Philip Samuelsson, Scott Harrington, and Brendan Mikkelson and Forwards Nick Drazenovic, Adam Payerl, Jayson Megna, Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond, and Steve MacIntyre.

Drazenovic, Mikkelson, and MacIntyre were placed on waivers and must clear by Noon on Monday for their assignment to become official and they can start working with the team in the AHL. The chances of them being claimed are slim, but we will have to wait and see what transpires.

We are now left with 35 players on the Training Camp Roster and need to be down to at least the 23-man roster minimum as well as being Salary Cap compliant by the end of the business day on September 30th.

The updated Training Camp Roster includes 3 Goaltenders, 12 Defensemen, and 20 Forwards. So the reasonable assumption is that we will see 5 more Defensemen and 7 more Forwards sent down within the next week, although it all depends on how the goaltending situation unfolds.

Currently there are no updates on the situation with goaltender Tomas Vokoun, so we don't know if he will miss any time and if so for how long he would be out. But for now they will be carrying 3 goaltenders until they figure what is going to happen. Furthermore, Forward Bobby Farnham and Defenseman Brian Dumoulin remain Day-to-Day with injuries they sustained playing in the Pre-Season, although both were on the ice prior to practice today so there is a chance they will be back in the lineup sooner rather than later.

The Penguins next see game action Monday September 23 at home vs the Chicago Blackhawks at 7:00pm. The game will be broadcast locally the Pittsburgh's CW WPCW and available to listen to via Penguins Radio.
