2 Penguins selected to the all-star game, 2 snubbed

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Congrats to Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin , both named to the 2015 NHL All-star team. Marc-Andre Fleury and Kris Letang got snubbed. Full teams can be found at nhl.com but here's a handy list of those named to join the 5 fan votes of Zemgus Girgensons, Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook and Corey Crawford

The teams will be picked via fantasy draft, which is a cool twist. Maybe Kessel can get picked last again for old time's sake.

The Fleury omission seems the biggest, but think big picture. Fleury's played 33 of the Penguins 41 games so far this season. Giving him a weekend off where he doesn't have to risk tweaking something in skill drills and a meaningless game is just fine. Ditto Letang, who has sat out all the optional practices lately with a minor injury. Getting him healed up is the best thing the Pens could hope for in the second half of the season.

Also, a little trivia tidbit to impress your friends- if Crosby plays this will be only the 2nd time in his illustrious career that he has ever played in an NHL All-Star game. For another bit of trivia it was way back in 2007. He had to miss the ASG that he was named to in '08, '09 and '11 due to various injuries. Due to the Olympics there were no all-stars in '10 and '14 and the lockout nixed it in '13. Dumb, but fun, right?

Kinda like the all-star game.
