Pens Points: Flyers Game Day

Your daily look at Pittsburgh Penguins and NHL news and stories.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning one and all,

The Pens visit with the Flyers amid arguably the poorest stretch of play so far this season. Despite the fact the Flyers aren't very good on the back end, these games never go as predicted. Your scouting report on the Flyers. [Penguins.com]

Coach Mike Johnston has a simple but strong message for the team: "We have to get our game back". This reminds me of something ... something ... what is it this reminds me of?  [Trib]

David Perron has been great offensively since joining the team. He is clearly taking advantage of great linemates and is taking his shots. [PPG]

Over at Wilkes-Barre, both Jeff Zatkoff and Matt Murray rank in the top 10 in GAA in the AHL. Both goalies seem to be benefiting coach John Hynes sound defensive system. [Bombulie]

At least the power play is bouncing back. Guys are taking more shots and fiddling with endless passing less. [Trib]

Taz is back! Pens have recalled Bobby Farnham from WB/S, who was scoreless in 10 NHL games so far, with 19 PIM in about 7.5 minutes TOI. He has, however, drawn 5 penalties/60, which is pretty good. [Penguins.com]

Mike Johnston says fatigue is not an issue with Marc-Andre Fleury. Still, there's no reason Fleury needs to play this much. [PPG]

Dave Molinari says it's not too early to start thinking of Fleury's eventual replacement on the Penguins. [PPG]

Is Marcel Goc better than most people think? Again, our eyes say no, but the data say yes. [Hockey Buzz]

In Toronto, it's raining Leafs jerseys yet again. I don't get it. You've paid a lot of money for it, and you're going to deal with police and all the rest. [The Score]

Well the Leafs did lose to the Carolina Hurricanes. Canes captain Eric Staal had a problem with a Phaneuf hit on brother Jordan, so he fought him and then shot a puck at him. [Sporting News]

Streaking Winnipeg Jets find themselves in unfamiliar territory. A really great read from our very own James Conley. [Pro Ice Hockey]

Here's a fight for the end. Monique Lamoureux and Jamie Lee Rattray throw down. [The Hockey News]

Anyways, Flyers tonight. Do not take penalties. Do not take penalties. Do not take penalties.
