Pens Points: Lineup Changes Coming?

Daily source of Pittsburgh Penguins and NHL news and stories.

Good morning one and all,

It was a fun weekend in Steel City, and we got a W! As you see from the pic, my youngest was in her element cheering on Olli Maatta.

The Panthers are coming to town tomorrow. Could there be lineup changes? Perhaps not so soon, but Dupuis and Fehr are back practicing with the team. [Trib]

If you're playing fantasy hockey, maybe now would be a good time to trade for Sidney Crosby. I mean, how long can this thing go on? [Sportsnet]

The power play remains comically bad. Hornqvist says they just need a lucky bounce. No, that won't erase lack of zone entry, proper setup and the shooting distance. The crowd was cheering every time the Pens managed to clear the puck out from their defensive zone on their own PP. [PPG]

Mired in his own slump, Patric Hornqvist at least continues to battle hard and work as hard as ever. [Mackey - Trib]

Joni Pitkanen is considering an NHL comeback after a devastating heel injury on a delayed icing that was all but thought to have ended his career. [Sportsnet]

Before his injury he was a legit top 4 defenseman. Could he be a pick-up option for the defensively-challenged Penguins? That's an Eiffel Tower-sized question mark. [Hockey Buzz]

Brendan Gallagher's goal was thought to be kicked in, so why didn't Blashill challenge it? Interesting observations that shed more light on the leeway officials have in reviewing coach's challenge [Sportsnet]

Injuries are piling up for the San Jose Sharks, with Paul Martin the latest to go down. [San Jose Mercury News]

Despite speculation that some NHL teams (particularly the Columbus Blue Jackets) might change coaches, currently no one is calling former NHL bench boss John Tortorella. [Pro Hockey Talk]

The Ducks are off to a not-hot start, so that means Boudreau is on the hot seat, right? If they make a change, Randy Carlyle could get the call. Hahahahahahahahaha. Now I've heard everything. [TSN]

Florida Panthers have hired Former Pens defenseman Hal Gill as their new player development coach. [Panthers]

We often think that goalies are so hard to project that NHL teams are far worse at drafting goalies than other positions. Actually, failure rates show that drafting a goaltender is not riskier than drafting a position player in the NHL. [InGoal Magazine]

Very weird turn of events in Magnitogorsk, where Mike Keenan is out as head coach, and to be succeeded by assistant Mike Pellino. Rumors are both are pursuing Russian citizenship in a bid to coach team Russia at WCH. [Peterborough Examiner]

For the end, we all know that beast Geno is the best Geno, unless it's funny Geno. Sportsnet's Sophia Jurksztowicz spent some time with Geno and got him to lighten up. [Sportsnet]
