The Phil Kessel trade and the effect it will have on the Pens Salary Cap

The Penguins acquired Phil Kessel this afternoon. Here's what the salary cap situation looks like

Oskar Sundqvist is included, should he make the team.

Clearing 2.2M by sending Spaling to Toronto helps big time.

Keeping both Maatta and Pouliot in the Kessel trade is still so surprising to me.

So with Bennett and Dumoulin still to be re-signed, a backup goalie to be signed or promoted, and add maybe 1 or 2 players, the Pens have 4.5M in space. That's flexibility and is certainly not 'salary cap hell.'
