You’re facing off against one of your most meaningful rivals. It’s been an eventful, action-packed game, and heading into the third period, the score is 4-4.
That’s when you score the eventual game winner, which also so happens to be your 300th career NHL goal.
That was Evgeni Malkin’s night. How was yours?
Now, in his 653 games played, Malkin has scored 300 times. That’s almost half a goal per game, and over a lot of games, at that. That is a ton of scoring - and he’s one of the fastest active players to do it, as a matter of fact. Via the Elias Sports Bureau:
Malkin reached the 300-goal milestone in this his 653rd NHL game, fifth fastest among active players, behind Alex Ovechkin (473 games), Steven Stamkos (550), Jaromir Jagr (580), and Crosby (622).
Three out of five of those guys did it while Penguins.
This is a guy, though, with a 50-goal season to his name. There are only two seasons in which he hasn’t scored 20, and those were either lockout or injury-shortened. But no matter what you put him through, Geno is score.
Here’s where it all began: Oct. 18, 2006, Malkin’s first-ever NHL game. What a long way he’s come since then - it’s been incredible to watch.
