Don’t look now, but Sidney Crosby is leading the NHL in points per game

The Pittsburgh Penguins, so far, have played 11 games this season. Sidney Crosby, who missed the start of the year with a concussion, has played five.

With six goals and eight points, he is fourth in team scoring.

The Penguins ahead of him - Evgeni Malkin, Patric Hornqvist, and Phil Kessel - have played all of the games this season. For that matter, so has Matt Cullen, who also has eight points.

And yet there Crosby is: eight points in five games, with two goals that got his team a point in an overtime loss, leading the entire NHL with 1.6 points per game.

It’s a small sample size to go off of, but then again, this is just the kind of thing we expect from Crosby. Probably the only reason he isn’t leading in league scoring very well could be because he’s missed out on six games; that’s it.

As things stand, he’s just barely outside of the top 50 league-wide. He’ll probably get in there pretty quick, though.
