Pens Points: Carolina Game Day

Daily source of Pittsburgh Penguins and NHL news and stories.

James Guillory-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning one and all,

The Pens are in Raleigh where they are set to meet the Hurricanes this evening.

The Pens have ruled out anything major in regards to Trevor Daley's injury and he will be a game-time decision for tonight. [Penguins]

If Daley can't go, Ian Cole (remember him?) will get his chance to play again. What a precipitous fall for who we once thought was a hidden jewel. [Trib]

The Canes have 10 games before the trade deadline, which will go a long way to determining what happens with the group of pending free agents, topped by the captain Eric Staal. [Cardiac Cane]

The guys are joined by their dads on this road trip and also rooming with them, so, naturally, bring ear plugs, headphones and sound-attenuating pillows for all the snoring. Moms >>> Dads! [PPG]

A report that Carey Price is unable to even don his goalie equipment, let alone practice properly, due to an MCL injury. According to this, the Habs have abandoned hope for his return in the regular season but are not stating it publicly to avoid team and fans from collapsing totally. Depending one one player = bad times in Montreal. [La Presse]

Maple Leafs iced one of the worst lineups in recent NHL memory last night (with Holland/Arcobello/Spaling/Froese at center), and were left to gawk as the Oilers and Connor McDavid put on a show. Five points (2G, 3A) for hometown kid. [Sportsnet]

The attention in Toronto has turned from their current joke of a team to openly cheering the lack of progress in Tampa with the Stamkos extension. Fans and media alike are united in promising Stammer everything he wants, but I'd sure be careful if I were him. [TSN]

Nazem Kadri was fined $5,000 for the throat-slashing gesture toward Mark Giordano. [TSN]

Radko Gudas continues his dirty and predatory play, but given he hasn't made any gestures, it's safe to assume there will be no discipline for the current standard-bearer as the lowliest scumbag in this league. [The Score]

Christian Ehrhoff has cleared waivers and will be assigned to the Kings AHL affiliate. Assumption is that any interested teams will try to work out a trade with the Kings so they can unload a contract as well. [LA Times]

The Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Ryan Murray to a 2-year extension with an average annual value of $2.285M. [Columbus Dispatch]

The Caps beat the Wild behind 14th career hat trick by the Great 8, who takes the Rocket Richard lead. I'd never have thought that seeing his mug pop up on the NHL stat leaderboard would make me happy, but given he replaces Kane I very much welcomed it. [Star Tribune]
