Sunday afternoon at Consol Energy Center, the hockey media from all over the place gathered where the Penguins and Sharks held court. It appeared to be pure chaos, with every player getting a few minutes to discuss their readiness to play for the Stanley Cup.
Here, we have a whole big sampling of quotes from players, coaches, management and more:
Dupuis on not being able to play: "I still feel like I'm in it completely. I want to do whatever I can to help." pic.twitter.com/tU1CFGHyre— Pittsburgh Penguins (@penguins) May 29, 2016
It has to be so difficult for Pascal Dupuis, to be in this situation, doing all that he can off the ice to support his teammates without being able to help them at all on the ice.
Hornqvist: "This is a great sports town. You can tell everyone is crazy and I couldn't be more proud of this city." pic.twitter.com/4QKYuirilA— Pittsburgh Penguins (@penguins) May 29, 2016
Well, yes, Patric, we are. We are all nuts.
Here's a beauty from Evgeni Malkin when asked what he told Jim Rutherford that he felt the Penguins needed most: "Good players."— Dan Rosen (@drosennhl) May 29, 2016
Evgeni Malkin is the greatest, quite simply.
Murray: "I've always had a pretty relaxed personality... For this time of year, it's about not overthinking it." pic.twitter.com/VgxSTuIMvl— Pittsburgh Penguins (@penguins) May 29, 2016
Matt Murray, ice cold.
There are only so many words I can write to describe how much I love Phil Kessel.
Crosby: "I realize how tough it is to get to this point. I'm definitely motivated to win." pic.twitter.com/vNKRRYZt8n— Pittsburgh Penguins (@penguins) May 29, 2016
Crosby was also featured on NHL Network, in a sit-down with Kathryn Tappen, Kevin Weekes, and Mike Rupp. He spoke about when the Pens made the Final back-to-back in 2008 and 2009, and thinking it might become the norm, then learning how difficult it can be, and learning to cherish this moment even more.
Daley's wearing a boot but still smiling. "Never been to a Final before. I'll still be around. Not keeping me away." pic.twitter.com/c5kNdYtEIg— Angie (@acarducci) May 29, 2016
Happy Trevor Daley makes me happy.
Lovejoy discusses Fleury: He's an incredible teammate. This cannot be easy for him. He's Matt's No. 1 cheerleader. pic.twitter.com/F3e2HFghl3— Angie (@acarducci) May 29, 2016
Ben Lovejoy also did an NHL Network sit-down and was asked about his thoughts on being a part of a record-tying eight American-born players to partake in a Stanley Cup Final game for one team, and he gave a great quote. It was something to the tune of "Well...Go USA. But I really don't care. I don't care where my teammates are from, right now we're all from Pittsburgh."
I think we covered most of the angles.
