New, comments

Following the earlier lists of top forwards right now (Sidney Crosby #2; Evgeni Malkin #10) and top defensemen (Kris Letang #6) the NHL Network has made a list of the top goalies right now. A Pittsburgh Penguins player made the list.

Maybe not the one expected, though.

Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury ranked ninth on NHL Network’s new countdown series Top 10 Goalies Right Now this past Saturday night, ranking the best goalies in the National Hockey League. Fleury, a two-time All-Star, finished one spot ahead of the Nashville PredatorsPekka Rinne and one spot behind the San Jose SharksMartin Jones.

NHL Network’s Tony Luftman and Mike Johnson counted down the best goalies based on player performance over the past several seasons, with an emphasis on the 2015-2016 season. The ranking also weighted projected performance in the 2016-2017 season, taking into account players returning from injury and young players expected to break out.

NHL Network’s Top 10 Goalies Right Now:

1. Braden Holtby, Washington Capitals

2. Carey Price, Montreal Canadiens

3. Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles Kings

4. Ben Bishop, Tampa Bay Lightning

5. Cory Schneider, New Jersey Devils

6. Henrik Lundqvist, New York Rangers

7. Corey Crawford, Chicago Blackhawks

8. Martin Jones, San Jose Sharks

9. Marc-Andre Fleury, Pittsburgh Penguins

10. Pekka Rinne, Nashville Predators

Ironically Matt Murray, who just won 4 consecutive playoff series against #6, #1, #4's replacement (who did very well) and #8 did not make the list.

Here's their recap and justifications, can be seen by clicking here.

Buy or sell Fleury at #9? And no Murray at all? Anyone over-rated?
