The final NHL All-Star rosters have been announced. We already knew Sidney Crosby was in, voted to be captain of the Metropolitan; after him, though? The Penguins had plenty of other options to offer.
Only one of whom has made it. Evgeni Malkin will join Crosby at the All-Star Game, and that’s it for the Penguins contingent.
Here’s what Team Metro will look like:
- F Sidney Crosby (PIT)
- F Taylor Hall (NJD)
- F Evgeni Malkin (PIT)
- F Alex Ovechkin (WSH)
- F Wayne Simmonds (PHI)
- F John Tavares (NYI)
- D Justin Faulk (CAR)
- D Seth Jones (CBJ)
- D Ryan McDonagh (NYR)
- G Sergei Bobrovsky (CBJ)
- G Braden Holtby (WSH)
With every team having to be represented, it’s a fine mix of players. No Metro team has more than two players each going, with both the Blue Jackets and Capitals joining the Penguins in that representation, particularly by virtue of having the team’s two goalies.
So under the constraints there are to go with NHL All-Star selections, that seems fair enough. Crosby and Malkin, with 44 and 43 points respectively, are two of the top five scorers in the NHL; for either of them to have not been selected would have been ludicrous.
Hopefully they can team up for some good shenanigans at the festivities in Los Angeles at the end of the month!
