Keeping up with the Metropolitans: Week 1

Your weekly dose of Metropolitan action!

NHL: St. Louis Blues at Pittsburgh Penguins Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Week 1/27

Well, it didn’t take long for last year’s best Division to get interesting. In case anyone forgot, Alex Ovechkin reminded us all that he can still score a goal or 7. Pittsburgh laid a stinker for the ages, then beat on the Predators for some redemption. The Rangers were just as all over the place as the Penguins were to start the season. The Devils didn’t play like the Devils we all know and love, playing fast action-packed hockey, and that’s not including much of an impact from 1st overall pick Nico Hischier yet. Bobrovsky was back to his usual self with a shutout in the Jackets opener, but then the Jackets fell victim to the Blackhawks in the next game without him in net. The Islanders are as perplexing as always, and the Canes and Wild put on an incredibly entertaining game. If you haven’t seen any highlights from it, I’d recommend doing so.

It’s hard to make any judgement at this point, with the season still being so young. With that being said, the Metro standings aren’t what you’d expect as of this morning. Will next week bring the major players back to the top, or have the balance of powers shifted in the Metro this year? Tune in next week for the latest installment and find out!
