In case you were in the dark all last week because of my NHL mandated 'bye week' and missed out on this weekly recap, I'm back and fully rested. Can't blame me if I'm slightly off my game, though. It's been well documented how much everyone has performed this year after our mandated in-season vacation. I know, hard to believe.
Okay, back to the Metro. Apparently, the Caps were just toying with the rest of the Metro for the last few weeks, as they've improved to a nice cushion with only 5 games left for the majority of the division. The Jackets - defying all critics still - have a one point lead over the third place Penguins, who look more like a preseason roster than NHL caliber one recently with all the players on the shelf. I know how impressive he's been, but when Justin Schultz is the clear cut #1 defenseman on the depth chart, it's going to show eventually. Meanwhile, the Rangers are enjoying themselves in fourth and putting all their scouts on the Atlantic Division, as the Rangers have all but locked up the WC1 position and will get out of playing against the Metro Division in the playoffs, unless they meet in the Conference Finals, of course. Unfortunately for the Rangers, it's probably going to be red hot Carey Price as their first round partner. Not like that's much of a consolation prize, but the Atlantic is certainly going to be the path of least most resistance.
As for the other Wild Card position, and likely opponent of the Capitals, as of now it is Boston's to lose. They have a four point lead over the Lightning, but the Lightning have a game in hand and some guy named Stamkos ready to make his long awaited return. Will it be enough for the Lightning to squeak into the playoffs? Only 10 more days until the Playoffs begin...
