Pens Points: Back. To. Back

Pens win thrilled in Nashville to clinch franchise’s fifth Stanley Cup title and complete historic back-to-back run. Crosby claims second straight Conn Smythe.

Two months ago, on the night the playoffs first began, I published a piece called “16 Wins.” In that piece I said “It’s not going to be easy. It’s not supposed to be.” What I should have added is that in the end it will be worth it. Everything we as fans have poured into the past two months is worth its price in gold (or maybe silver). You know now how much of a roller coaster the last two months have been. All that matters now is one thing, the Stanley Cup will remain in the city of Pittsburgh.

Playing the game of their lives, the Penguins put everything they had on the line to knock off the Nashville Predators in Game 6 to clinch the franchise’s fifth Stanley Cup championship.

Enjoy this moment. Soak everything in. Like all the tweets. Save all the photos. Cry all the tears. Just make sure you savor every last second of this. We are the most blessed fan base in hockey. What the Penguins did this year defies most logic but all that matters now is that trophy.

This space is where I normally include a list of good article to check out about the Pens or the NHL in general. Today I’m not going to do that. There is too much great content coming out right now to pick the best of the best. My suggestion is check out the local sources (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Trib Live, KDKA, and numerous others) for reaction inside the city. Pop over to the multiple national outlets who covered the Final and the Pens historic repeat. Save your favorites and over the summer go back and read them. Re-live it over and over again in your mind. Remember that feeling. Remember how blessed we truly are. The two best players of this generation pull on that skating penguin every game and just did the impossible for this city and its fans.

Winning one is hard enough. Going back-to-back seemed near impossible to even comprehend. Our team did that very thing last night. Against all odds they went out there and did the damn thing. Now we get another parade and another summer with Lord Stanley.

We all did this together. I’m so happy to be a part of all of this with our staff here at Pensburgh and all of our readers. This is an incredible fan base. We are blessed to share this with all of you.

Now, let’s go hang out by the river and keep this party going all summer.
