This afternoon, news came down from the NHL that the `Board of Governors had made a change to how coaches and teams would be penalized for a failed challenge of an offside review.
Teams no longer will be required to possess a timeout in order to challenge. However, the result of losing a challenge for offsides review will be a 2-minute minor penalty for delay of game.
Rule 78.7(b) now will read:
b) If the result of the challenge is that the play was on-side, the goal shall count and the team that issues the challenge shall be assessed a minor penalty for delaying the game.
If you’re a fan of team chaos, by all means, let the fun begin. Who will be the first coach to throw caution to the wind and challenge over and over and lose over and over?
