Phil Kessel Makes Appearance on College Gameday

Amongst a sea of football fans in Virginia, one opportunistic hockey fan let the nation know one very important fact.

On Saturday morning, ESPN’s College Gameday was broadcasting live from Blacksburg, Virginia when a Penguins fan made an interesting discovery.

One of the traditions of Gameday is having fans in attendance holding up signs with a wide variety of clever jokes and taunts at opposing teams or players. These signs often make it on television since the fans are standing directly behind the main stage and in view of all the cameras.

While most of the signs are usually relating to college football, on Saturday during the broadcast an advantageous hockey fan seized his opportunity on national television to make an important public service announcement: Phil Kessel is a 2x Stanley Cup Champion.

Luckily for everyone who wasn’t watching Gameday or missed it, Penguins’ fan Steve Riggs was and captured the image and posted it to Twitter.

Credit to Steve for capturing the moment and huge credit to the opportunistic hockey fan who took full advantage of his moment in the spotlight to deliver this powerful message.
