The NHL announced the teams for the 2018 All-Star game later this month on 1/28, and surprisingly enough the Penguins will be represented by Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang. Here’s the full Metropolitan Division team:

It’s only a 3v3 game, you’ll remember so Phil Kessel finds no space on this team unfortunately. I doubt he’ll really care that he gets a weekend off instead of having to attend all the events and such.
Crosby and Letang are a bit unconventional picks, but let’s remember the name of the game is the ALL-STAR game, not just “who had the best 1⁄2 of a season game”. Right or wrong, three time Stanley Cup champions and tremendously skilled players like Crosby and Letang are just bigger stars in the NHL world than some of the others that got snubbed. If anything, the league could have steered further into things and named Evgeni Malkin instead of Josh Bailey, despite the latter’s excellent season.
Regardless, fans probably care about this more than the players and a lot of even the most diehard fans really don’t care and just roll their eyes and continue about their lives.
Interestingly enough, Crosby and Letang will be reunited with an old friend at the ASG too, as Marc-Andre Fleury was named to the Pacific team. James Neal will also be in attendance as a Vegas Golden Knight. Fleury and Neal are the only 2 players in the game who were former Penguins.
