Pens promote J-S Dea, Simon to IR; Malkin chirps Phil

The Pens have a new forward, more importantly Geno is having social media fun

NHL: Carolina Hurricanes at Pittsburgh Penguins Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

In some perhaps not-so-good news, the Penguins have moved Dominik Simon to the injured reserve. Simon was said to be “day to day” after getting hurt in Tuesday night’s game. IR is retroactive so he’ll have to be out at least a week from Tuesday.

Replacing him on the roster is Jean-Sebastien Dea. From the Pens:

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forward Jean-Sebastien Dea from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.

Forward Dominik Simon has been placed on injured reserve.

Dea, 24, was re-claimed by the Penguins off waivers from the New Jersey Devils on November 29. He played 20 games this season for the Devils, producing five points (3G-2A). Both assists came against the Pens back on November 5 at PPG Paints Arena.

Since re-joining the Penguins’ organization, the 5-foot-11, 175-pound Dea has collected two assists in two games with WBS. Dea was one of the Penguins’ final roster cuts at the end of this year’s preseason after he notched one helper in two games. New Jersey claimed him off waivers on September 28.

A native of Laval, Quebec, Dea has six points (4G-2A) in 26 career NHL games split between the Penguins and Devils. He scored his first NHL goal on January 23 of last season, the game-winning goal during a 3-2 win against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Last season the undrafted free agent was named the WBS Penguins’ team MVP after establishing a career high with 50 points (18G-32A) in 70 games at the AHL level.

OK in more important news, Evgeni Malkin from the clouds! On the Pens’ plane (like today’s trip to Ottawa) there is a pretty legendary regular crew of card players. You’ve got Malkin, Phil Kessel, Kris Letang, and the 4th player has had some turnover as players leave the team but now has Derick Brassard in the fold as the current 4th.

So much to digest here-

#1: the caption! Hashtag worst player, Hashtag Phil bad at cards Hashtag beat Phil. Too much to handle

#2: Total boss move to have your initials embroidered on your dress shirt (Which I believe is the first time a Geno Malkin fashion statement has ever been complimented on Pensburgh)

#3: As Paul Bissonnette noticed, a decent enough watch for the old wrist

#4: In fact, the comment area is maybe even better than Malkin’s post!

-You’ve got Kris Letang multi-replying that he is the best player and Phil is the worst. And Phil is valiantly defending his honor declaring that he is actually the best.

Just a bunch of buddies on a business trip having some fun in the never-ending battle for bragging rights.
