Kris Letang voted into 2019 All Star game by the fans

The fifth career ASG for the Pens’ best defenseman

NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins at Montreal Canadiens Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

All Star game gratification for Kris Letang was delayed, but not denied. The Penguins defenseman was the “last man in” and beat a candidate from every other team in the division to be named to the game coming up in two weeks in San Jose.

When we wrote about this topic last week, asking if Pens fans even wanted Letang to go to California for the game in the middle of the bye week the response was incredibly split. It was 49% to want him to make the game and 51% to want him to get the rest.

For Letang it’s his fifth career ASG nod, joining appearances in 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2018. There was no All Star Game in 2013 or 2014 due to a lockout and Olympic participation, so that means Letang has attended five of the last seven ASGs, an impressive achievement considering in the new format only three defensemen from the entire division made it. Washington’s John Carlson and Columbus’ Seth Jones join Letang this season.

Sidney Crosby will also be there for the Pens. As will old friend Marc-Andre Fleury who made the Pacific Division team, which should make for another fun little reunion among the three buddies.
