On the eve (well, almost) of the beginning of training camp, what better time to take stock of the franchise record books?

With Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin advancing deeper into their careers, now almost every month it seems like they’re approaching and surpassing all kinds of different milestones and levels. Here’s what could be on the docket this year

Games Played:

  1. Sidney Crosby - 943
  2. Mario Lemieux - 915
  3. Evgeni Malkin - 852
  4. Jaromir Jagr - 806
  5. Jean Pronovost - 753
  6. Kris Letang - 747

Malkin is 63 games away from tying Lemieux for regular season games played in a Pens’ jersey. Every game Crosby plays from here on out sets a new franchise record, and he’s 57 short of the 1,000 milestone. Letang is a handful of games away from entering the top-five here and 59 behind Jagr.

Goals:

  1. M. Lemieux - 690
  2. S. Crosby - 446
  3. J. Jagr - 439
  4. E. Malkin - 391
  5. J. Pronovost - 316

We’re not likely to see any moves in goals this season, unless Malkin really goes off and scores 48 to tie Jagr. Lemieux’s franchise record is looking pretty safe too at this point from Crosby, with Mario still 244 up on Sid. Crosby has averaged 36 goals over the last four seasons, and at that rate he would need 6.77 seasons of that pace to tie Lemieux, which would take him until age 39. Not experiencing any drop-off from that pace obviously is unlikely as Crosby ages, thus he probably doesn’t have 690 goals in him barring the game not changing or opening up even more.

Game-Winning Goals:

  1. J. Jagr - 78
  2. M. Lemieux - 74
  3. E. Malkin - 68
  4. S. Crosby - 60
  5. J. Pronovost - 42

A rare category where the old guard of Lemieux and Jagr still rank above Crosby and Malkin.

Assists:

  1. M. Lemieux - 1,033
  2. S. Crosby - 770
  3. J. Jagr - 640
  4. E. Malkin - 611
  5. Ron Francis - 449
  6. K. Letang - 381

Malkin has Jagr in his sights here with 29 helpers away from surpassing #68 in this category. Unlike goals, Crosby is in pretty good shape here to move into first place eventually. He’s currently 263 assists behind Lemieux, and has added 125 in the last two seasons alone.

Points:

  1. M. Lemieux - 1,723
  2. S. Crosby - 1,216
  3. J. Jagr - 1,079
  4. E. Malkin - 1,002
  5. Rick Kehoe - 636

Malkin hit his 1,000 milestone late last season and again has Jagr in his sights at 77 points behind.
