With the 2019-2020 NHL season in the books, the next thing on team’s radar is the upcoming NHL Draft.

According to the Athletic ($), the Penguins have plans to set up a ‘war room’ at PPG Paints Arena.

Along with Penguins GM Jim Rutherford at the draft “table” will be:

  • Assistant General Manager Jason Karmanos
  • Director of Hockey Research Sam Ventura
  • Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Assistant General Manager Erik Heasley
  • Director of Amateur Scouting Patrik Allvin

While Rutherford doesn’t appear to be the most ‘bought in’ to analytics, it is good to see that Sam Ventura will have a seat at the table.

We have seen the Penguins make out at the draft in the middle rounds, landing players like Jake Guentzel and Tristan Jarry well past the first round.

Relying on scouting seems to be a key during the draft, let’s hope the Penguins can come away with some solid picks.
