Well that’s it folks. The Dominik SImon chapter has officially closed (for the time being) when SImon signed a one-year dear with the Calgary Flames yesterday. He was drafted in the fifth round in 2015 and scored 19 goals and 45 assists in 173 regular season games and also chipped in four assists in 12 playoff games with Pittsburgh. [NHL]

The #Flames have inked forward Dominik Simon to a one-year deal! https://t.co/Zz7dbRfIcz
Simon rode shotgun to Sidney Crosby in his first few seasons which obviously had many benefits. Simon will try to make a name for himself without one playing alongside one of the best players in the NHL with Calgary. [Calgary Sun]
While Simon may not have the most recognizable name in the NHL, he managed to find himself with Sidney Crosby for most of his ice time and the two did seem to click despite Simon not putting up the points to go along with the impressive analytical numbers. Here’s a pretty good article giving Simon a proper send-off with some numbers to back his play along with some highlights to back up his cult hero status among some Penguin fans. [The Sporting Daily]
Penguins goalie prospect Emil Larmi was loaned to HPK in Finland before the NHL training camps open. He’s likely to be in a position battle to be number three on the Penguins goalie depth chart. [Trib Live]
League News
In more of a formality rather than breaking news, the NHL announced the postponement of the 2021 All-Star Game in Sunrise and Winter Classic between St. Louis and Minnesota at Target Field in Minnesota. [NBC Sports]
NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said yesterday that the league still plans on playing an 82 game season that begins around New Years 2021. There are obviously many hurdles in the way for that to happen, but the league brass is still considering playing an entire season. [NHL]
The NHL Network put quite an entertaining bit together of the best NHL teams from the past two decades by specific aspects such as best offensive and defensive, along with the most exciting. [NHL]
A year ago Blake Bolden joined Cammi Granato as the second woman scout in the NHL, and paved the way as the first black woman scout with the Los Angeles Kings. Bolden began her career scouting AHL games but with the AHL on hiatus, Bolden has learned to adapt in her second year of scouting for the Kings. [Yahoo!]
