The Penguins announced Wednesday morning that they were calling up Zach Trotman from Wilkes/Barre-Scranton.
The recall is on an emergency basis.
This call-up also comes at the same time as fellow defenseman John Marino being placed on injured reserve.
Trotman has played in five games so far this season for the Penguins.
Evgeni Malkin was absent from practice Wednesday morning. This doesn’t come as a huge surprise, as he was a late scratch from Tuesday evenings game against the Maple Leafs due to illness.
Per the Post-Gazette’s Matt Vensel, Brian Dumoulin was at today’s practice, watching from the bench. He did the same at yesterday’s morning skate.
Brian Dumoulin is watching today's practice from the bench. Did the same for tomorrow's morning skate. Obviously a good sign that he's back around his teammates and getting more involved. #Pens

Dumoulin also skated on his own for about 30 minutes this morning, this is a good development that he may be nearing closer to a return to skating, practicing, and ultimately to the lineup.
The Penguins face off against the Maple Leafs tomorrow night in Toronto at 7:00 p.m.
