Welcome to Sunday. Lots of activity gearing up as the NHL plans to try and restart the season, let’s get caught up..

Depth defensemen for both the Penguins and the Canadiens have opted-out prior to the Monday night deadline in Zach Trotman and Karl Alzner, respectively. As of current writing only six players across the league have publicly exercised this right. [Pensburgh] [Twitter]

Naturally players are sure to be cautious, and with good reason, with the return in these uncertain times. [The Athletic $]

Also worth monitoring is that Max Domi, a Type-1 Diabetic, has yet to start voluntary workouts and his status (perhaps by doctor’s orders) is in doubt for this summer. If Domi is unable to play, it might open it up a spot in the lineup for youngster Jesper Kotkaniemi to step into. [Habs Eyes on the Prize]

Lots of high draft picks might make Montreal and Ottawa the next high profile rivalry in the league in years to come. [EOTP]

Jim Rutherford has one primary goal right now, get all his players to the hub in Toronto healthy. [Tribune Review]

More on the NHL’s return to play details and agreement which includes a four year extension of the league’s CBA through 2026. [Penguins.com]

Gary Bettman and PA leader Donald Fehr give their perspective on the agreement. [TSN.ca]

That agreement will lead to a flat salary cap next season, which is bad news for impending free agents like Justin Schultz. [NBC Sports]

But part of the fun will include the apparent return to the Olympics for NHL players next time in 2022 and 2026. [NHL.com]

Tampa’s captain Steven Stamkos has suffered an injury and won’t be ready for the start of training camp, but is said to be hopeful for the beginning of when the games count. [TSN.ca]

The five game “play in” will have stats counting to the playoffs, which kinda makes sense being as it sure isn’t regular season play. [Twitter]

They hate us, they really hate us! (But for kinda weak reasons, “oh the team almost moved”, “the jerseys are bad” (lol wut), “the fans make us feel insecure by reminding us we haven’t won a championship in 45 years and our lifetimes”...Can’t we do any better?) [Broad Street Hockey]
