Some defensive help will soon be on its way to Pittsburgh.
With the Penguins dealing with an injury bug on the blue line, they’ve sought some extra depth by signing defenseman Yannick Weber.
The Penguins have signed defenseman Yannick Weber to a one-year contract. The two-way contract will run through this season and is worth $700,000 at the NHL level.

The Penguins announced Wednesday evening that they have Weber to a 1-year deal worth $700,000.
The deal is a two-way contract, and Weber will have to clear waivers before he can join the Penguins.
The 32-year-old defenseman has been in the league since the 2008-09 season, with time spent playing for the Montreal Canadiens, the Vancouver Canucks, and most recently with the Nashville Predators.
Statistically, Weber’s best season came in the 2014-15 season, when he registered 11 goals and 10 assists in 65 games with the Canucks.
Assuming Weber clears waivers, it’s unclear when he might join the team or where he might slot into the lineup.
The Penguins are set to face the Bruins for the second time in 3 days tomorrow night at TD Garden in Boston.
